There’s always hope that the thrill of the road will entice a musician to change his mind, but it seems as though AC/DC’s bassist Cliff Williams is sticking to his earlier assertion that the band’s latest tour would be his last.

In a new announcement AC/DC shared on Twitter, Williams sat down and talked about his decision. “It’s time for me to step out,” he said. “Not because we lost Mal[colm Young], Phil [Rudd] or Brian [Johnson], I mean that’s…everything changes when something happens like that. When Bon [Scott] died, it changed then. You know, everything changes, so it’s not that it’s just…I’m just ready to get off the road, really, and do what I do in between tours.”

He explained that enjoying time off is nothing new to him, and he’s looking forward to spending more time with family. “[AC/DC] take a few years off, so I know how to do that,” he said. “I know what I’m gonna do. Again, it’s just my time. I’m happy…I just need to…family time now, just chill out and not do this.”

There don’t seem to be any hard feelings on Williams’ part. But his time has run its course. “I couldn’t have asked for anything more, being with the people I’m with and have been, and being in this situation with this band playing this music,” he said.
