Shortly after being sentenced to eight months of home detention for pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis, Phil Rudd told New Zealand’s TV3 that he intended to “get my job back, go back on the road, [and] make a lot of money.”

He expressed the same intent to Rolling Stone, insisting that he’d be back on the road with AC/DC once his sentence was over. “Just give me five minutes in a room with him and I’ll get my job back,” Rudd said about Angus Young. “I promise ya.”

Now that his sentence is up, Rudd is drumming to a different beat. When The Bay of Plenty Times asked him if rejoining AC/DC is in his future, he said, “It is up to Angus.”

As for the passion he once had for getting his job back, Rudd says that he left it behind with the person he used to be. “I was over-fuelled. All over the place. I am not like that any more,” he explains. “I’ve never felt better as a drummer or a person. I am not saying I never hope of ever playing with AC/DC again but, then again, is it even AC/DC any more? No Bon’s beautiful voice. No Malcolm. No Brian.”
