Earlier this week, co-founding AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young‘s retirement was announced and now it seems as though dementia may have been the cause of it.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, who spoke with sources close to Young’s family, the songwriter has been placed in a nursing home that specializes in dementia, where the late former Australian Labor Party president Neville Wran and former Prime Minister of Australia Gough Whitlam have sought treatment.

“If you were in the room with [Young] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn’t remember who you are,” the source said. “He has a complete loss of short-term memory. His wife, Linda, has put him in full-time care.”
The Australian rock band however will still be pressing on without Young. On the same day that band revealed Young’s retirement, they also announced that they have a new album, Rock or Bust. A snippet of one of their new songs, “Play Ball,” has been released.

Rock or Bust is due out Dec. 2. Stevie Young, Malcolm Young’s nephew, played on the record in his place.
